A question asked to the potterheads over and over again. Here we fulfill our duty as potterheads by providing you all with ten reasons to do so...
There are some things that have seriously stuck around for thousands of years, like fire, wheel, makeup, gold and alcohol etc.
One such thing that will stick around for thousands of years to come is the Harry Potter Series.
Starting off as a mere idea during J.K. Rowling’s train journeys, it has now been shaped into an entire universe.
So, even though we do not need any particular reasons of sorts to love harry potter, we still provide you muggles with ten of them to kind of explain why it is so beloved even after it’s been nearly a decade the final harry potter movies released.
Ten reasons we absolutely love Harry Potter:
1.It shaped up an entire generation:
The Millennial grew up watching this series. For many of us watching your first harry potter movie, getting your hands on the very first book, discussing about it for hours with our friends & imagining ourselves as one of the characters, have been our fondest memories. Be it doing silly things like running around the house with a broom or be it us crying over the death of our favorite characters, the series has provided us with all kinds of emotions one can imagine.
2.The journey of a boy to a Man:
Saying that Harry went from being a boy to become a man would be an understatement. Instead Harry went from being an oppressed orphan living inside the cupboard under the staircase to an Hero, the emancipator of slaves, a LEGEND, will be more like it.
Harry has been through the lowest of lows and the highest highs. We’ve just been lucky enough to not only witness it but also travel alongside him on this roller coaster of a journey.
3.The Characters:
J.K Rowling’s brilliance as a writer can be witnessed firsthand through the way she wrote this brilliant characters.
Each and every character she wrote connects with the readers. Be it the friendly Ron, the lovely and smart Hermione, the bully Draco or the sweet and kind Neville.
Moreover Rowling doesn't shy away from showing the darker sides of the characters. Even though the lines between the good and evil have been finely drawn, she shows us how the most noble of souls can have a dark past or a dark side for that matter and how the most evilest of people can perform acts of good, generosity and kindness. Each character possesses a certain quality to admire.(even the evil one's)
Be it Dumbledore, who wanted to conquer death and rule over the muggles themselves or Be it Narcissa saving harry, or be it voldemort having a troubled childhood or snape’s love for lily and how he redeems himself.
Rowling made sure that each character has it’s depth, back story and connects with the audience.
4.The Magical Universe:
Now now, don’t get me started on this.
The Universe Rowling created is so beautiful, diverse and ever expanding.
The story that started with just a simple boy has now shaped into an ever expanding universe, When the fans thought JK was done with harry potter she turned up with the cursed child and then again with the fantastic beasts series. With dozens of magical creatures be it unicorns, dragons, elves, goblins, giants, just name them and you’ve got them in the universe. Not to forget all the exotic locations like the gringotts bank, hogsmede, the burrow, the shrieking shack, the Zonko’s joke shop, the forbidden forest and most importantly HOGWARTS!.
Each location has its own history and are explained so neatly that we feel like revisiting it in our thoughts again and again.
5.The school life:
Many of us were in our schools during the course of the Harry potter saga and so we hated our schools because of the high standards which had been set in our minds by Hogwarts.
But accept it or not, school life is one of the most beautiful parts of our lives and so was beautifully portrayed in the series.
Be it the trio getting into numerous troubles, getting detentions, bunking classes, getting into pity fight with rivals, the weasley twins playing pranks or getting into the bad books of the teachers, be it the friendships and bonds or be it that first innocent high school love, everything resonated perfectly.
Even though harry was bullied, threatened, and numerous attempts made to kill him were made during the course of the first film alone, harry still made it a point to call Hogwarts his home.
It isn’t because he hated his uncle and aunt but because of the love, affection and togetherness he found around him in Hogwarts. That alone is the biggest reason to love school life.
6.The Mysteries:
Who doesn't love a good mystery to solve right?
And what better mystery than that of a giant snake which can petrify anyone who looks into his eyes, or that of a man who is so feared that none can dare take his name, or that about a the tale of the three brothers who traded with the death himself…
The Harry Potter universe is filled with mysteries which keep the readers engaged and constantly wondering over it.
7.The Friendships:
This is in my opinion the core of the whole series. The bond the trio build in just a short span that they become inseparable. Remember the eleven year old Ron offering his sandwich to a boy he just met even through its all he’s got. Or both Ron and Hermione ready to sacrifice themselves for harry numerous times over or harry ready to sacrifice himself for the safety of his friends. Be it the moments they share like Ron stealing his fathers flying car to reach Hogwarts, or breaking into the dudleys house to rescue harry, or Hermione sneaking into the tent just before the GoF tournament cause she’s worried about harry or them both leaving behind their families to go with Harry on the horcrux hunt. Each part shows how much they love and care about each there and value their friendship.
8.The Love & Romance:
High school romance’s are really beautiful, just because of the utter innocence of it. Unlike the adults the love this teens have is pure and unconditional. Love is the most beautiful feeling. When we love we always try to be better than what we are, and when we strive to become better than we are, everything around us becomes better too. And that’s exactly what happens with the harry potter universe. Be it James and Lily’s or Ron and Hermione’s love stories, Snape’s one sided love for lily which changes him, Harry finding love in Ginny OR MOST IMPORTANTLY THE MOTHER’S LOVE WHICH SAVE’S HARRY FROM THE DEATH CURSE…
Each has its own significance, its due course and something that makes it unique and unforgettable.
9.The underlying Moral’s:
No matter how good the story is, how entertaining it is or how unique it is, it becomes vague if we don’t get to learn something of value from it.
Thankfully that’s not the case with the Harry Potter series.
Each and every part has its own underlying morals and lessons that teach us to be better individuals, which instill in us values of love, loyalty, humbleness, truth and what not.
You can never go wrong with old the wise Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore standing around the corner to bombard you with wise, beautiful and catchy quotes every once in a while.
10.The simplicity:
The one thing that I personally believe makes us fall in love with the Harry Potter series over and over again is its simplicity.
The simplicity of Three friends who love each other’s company more than anything, who love to hang out,, eat their favorite chocolates, candies and cupcakes, love devouring the feasts have fun pretty much like all the kids of their age. Three friends who are really different from each other yet glue together cause your likes and tastes doesn’t really matter in friendship.
The simplicity of whether you are a wizard or a muggle, one blessed with unimaginable courage and power or not you can still be either good or evil because it’s the choices we make that shape us into the person we become.
The simplicity of the triumph of good over evil, and how THE SCAR HAD NOT PAINED HARRY FOR 19 YEARS. ALL WAS WELL….
